Nobel Prize winner Geoffrey Hinton: We should establish AI security-related organizations and communities to promote AI towards goodness.
At the main forum of the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, Turing Award and Nobel Prize in Physics winner Geoffrey Hinton stated that almost all experts believe that there will be AI smarter than humans. AI intelligent entities, in order to complete tasks, may want to survive, gain more control, and possibly manipulate humans. Simply shutting down AI is not realistic, it's like raising a tiger as a pet, which may harm you when it grows up, and humans cannot destroy AI because of its significant impact in various fields. Geoffrey Hinton hopes to establish an AI security organization, an international community, to study techniques to train AI to be good. Countries can research and share results within their sovereign territories, and global or major AI countries should consider establishing relevant networks to research how to train intelligent AI to assist humans, rather than eliminate or dominate humans. This is a crucial issue that humanity has long faced.
