Media: The U.S. government's Efficiency Department plans to cancel 50% of federal regulations before Trump's one-year anniversary.
According to files obtained by the media and information from four knowledgeable government officials, the US Department of Efficiency is currently using a new artificial intelligence tool called "DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool" to reduce federal regulations, with the goal of abolishing half of federal regulatory directives by the first anniversary of President Trump's inauguration. The tool was developed by engineers introduced by Elon Musk's DOGE project, and plans to analyze approximately 200,000 federal regulations, identify regulations that can be abolished, with an estimated 100,000 regulations to be reduced, mainly relying on automation tools and incorporating some employee feedback. The presentation materials state that within less than two weeks, the tool helped the Department of Housing and Urban Development abolish over 1,000 "regulatory provisions," and completed "100% deregulation work" for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, potentially saving the US trillions of dollars. According to the plan, each federal agency must complete a list of regulations to be abolished using the tool by September 1, and this month DOGE will start training personnel from various agencies to use the tool, with the goal of completing all work by January 20, 2026. However, an employee from HUD who participated in the trial stated that the AI tool made errors and misjudged the match between regulatory language and scope. White House spokesperson Harrison Fields stated that the related work is in its early stages and is being discussed with the White House, and no single plan has been approved yet.
