Thailand: Seeking to restrain the impact of gold prices on the local currency, the Thai Baht.
Recently, Roong Mallikamas, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Thailand, stated that the Bank of Thailand and the Ministry of Finance are discussing how to address currency fluctuations that are not in line with fundamental factors. The price of gold is one of the non-fundamental factors affecting the Thai baht, and authorities are seeking ways to reduce the correlation between the two. She refused to disclose specific measures being considered or when they would be announced. "The Thai baht should act as a shock absorber, not an amplifier," said Roong, the new candidate for Governor of the Bank of Thailand. "Therefore, non-fundamental issues should definitely be addressed."
