Yang Guodong, Vice President of the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, mentioned in his speech at the 2025 Multimodal Transport Development Conference and the First Innovative Conference on Network Water Transport Platform that vigorously developing water transport and multimodal transport is the key path to reducing the overall logistics costs of the society from the perspective of transportation structure adjustment. The theme of this conference is "Innovate Network Water Transport, Ecological Integration of Multimodal Transport". According to the calculation of the Logistics Information Service Branch of the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, with the gradual improvement of multimodal transport infrastructure such as inland waterways, railways, and hubs, the organizational capacity of network water transport continues to increase, and the proportion of public water, public rail, and rail-water intermodal transport is continuously increasing. It is estimated that by 2027, 5%-6% of freight volume will shift from road transport to multimodal transport, and the improvement in the proportion of multimodal transport will lead to a decrease of 0.25-0.3 percentage points in the ratio of total logistics costs to GDP, making a positive contribution to achieving the cost reduction goals outlined in the "Effective Reduction of Overall Logistics Costs Action Plan".
