The Australian Minister of Home Affairs dismissed claims of the government's intervention in the expulsion of the Iranian ambassador by calling it baseless rumors of taking credit.

According to a report by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on August 27th, Israeli government spokesperson David Menashe took credit for Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu's recent "frank intervention" with Australia, which led to Australia making the decision to expel the Iranian ambassador and take related actions. Australian Minister of Home Affairs Tony Burke responded by saying that this claim is "completely baseless". Australian Prime Minister Albanese announced on August 26th that they will be expelling the Iranian ambassador and temporarily suspending operations at the Australian embassy in Iran. Albanese stated that the Iranian government has been involved in at least two anti-Semitic attacks in Australia. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghaei responded by saying that Iran is evaluating the situation and will take appropriate measures in response, and that Iran will respond in kind to any inappropriate behavior in the diplomatic sphere.
