The Director of National Intelligence in the United States, Turse Gabard, said on August 18th that Britain no longer requires Apple to provide a "backdoor." Gabard stated that the "backdoor" can be used to access encrypted data that is protected for American citizens. The British government believes that breaking through encryption barriers in information and backup systems is crucial for protecting the public from terrorism threats and investigating child abuse. Apple later filed a legal appeal against this request.
