Intel plans to split the networking division into an independent company.
Intel announced its plan to separate its Network and Edge department on Thursday in a memo to clients, and indicated that it would seek outside investment for the business unit. A spokesperson for Intel confirmed the contents of the memo. The representative stated in a statement, "We plan to establish the core part of the network and communications business as an independent company, and have initiated the process of seeking strategic investors." The memo was reportedly written by Sashin Kat. Since early 2023, he has been leading the Network and Edge department. In April of this year, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger appointed him as Chief Technology and Artificial Intelligence Officer, responsible for the company's artificial intelligence strategy.
