Head of Iran's Imam Khomeini Airport: The airport remains in normal operation despite US sanctions on the aviation industry.

Ramin Kashef-Azar, CEO of Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport, said in an interview with Iran's state broadcaster IRIB on Sunday that the airport remains operational despite U.S. sanctions on Iran's aviation industry. Kashef-Azar said the airport continues to operate routes to more than 30 international destinations; on September 23, the day the sanctions officially took effect, a total of 60 flights operated smoothly. The U.S. Treasury Department added 27 airlines to its sanctions list on September 8, covering the remaining Iranian carriers that had not previously been subject to U.S. sanctions. Subsequently, Oman and the United Arab Emirates suspended Iranian routes, and four Iraqi airports also halted flights to and from Iran.
