India's central bank: Measures to attract investment in India have drawn over $40 billion in foreign capital.
India is actively attracting foreign capital, having brought in over $40 billion since June, which bolsters the foreign exchange reserves of the Reserve Bank of India. With current international crude oil prices rising, Indian policymakers are using this opportunity to stabilize the rupee exchange rate. Data released by the Reserve Bank of India on Saturday shows that as of July 31, foreign currency deposits from non-residents reached $367.2 billion. In addition to inflows from overseas currency borrowings and overseas commercial borrowings, the total amount of foreign capital attracted is approximately $41 billion. In an interview this week, Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjiv Malhotra reassured investors about the prospects for the rupee. He stated that the recent weakening of the rupee is due to geopolitical conflicts, the strengthening of the dollar, and general volatility in emerging markets, rather than a deterioration in India's economic fundamentals.
