As of the end of last month, the Hong Kong Transport Department has issued over 140,000 permits to applicants from Hong Kong for traveling to the north.

The Secretary for Transport and Logistics of Hong Kong, Chen Meibao, said that the "Hong Kong vehicle heading north" will be implemented in July 2023. As of the end of March this year, the Hong Kong Transport Department has issued a total of about 144,000 closed road permits to applicants of the "Hong Kong vehicle heading north". Approximately one out of every five to six eligible vehicles participate in the scheme. The usage of the bridge has also reached new highs, with the "Hong Kong vehicle heading north" accounting for about 40%. The governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong have been closely monitoring the implementation of the scheme and will timely introduce optimization measures to provide better convenience and travel experience for applicants. Chen Meibao stated that since the implementation of the "Hong Kong vehicle heading north", the number of pre-booked trips has increased to about 61,000 to 82,000 per month in the first quarter of this year. As for the "Guangdong vehicle heading south", Chen Meibao said that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government is actively discussing detailed plans and implementation arrangements with various mainland units, and expects to announce details within this year.
