General Motors Company (GM.US) released a new all-electric Chevrolet Corvette concept car on Monday. However, General Motors Company stated that this new concept car is just a "design study" and will not go into production. The company added that this concept car and the newly opened UK studio demonstrate its continued commitment to Europe, as the company expands its Cadillac electric vehicle business and prepares to launch Corvette sales in the European region.
The concept car was designed by General Motors Company's new studio located near Royal Leamington Spa in Birmingham, UK. The studio is led by Julian Thomson, who previously worked at Jaguar. The new studio is relatively small, with about thirty employees, but it has all the necessary equipment for full virtual prototype design and coordinate machines for creating clay models.
The launch of the new Corvette concept car and the opening of the UK design studio seem to come at an inopportune time, as the US has just launched a tariff war against all its trading partners and imposed a 25% tariff on all imported cars to the United States. The latest Corvette concept car release is just one of many Corvette concept cars, and the company's other studios will also introduce new design versions of the Corvette. It is still unknown which project will ultimately become the starting point for the development of the new Corvette.
