The Taiwan Affairs Office warns Lai Ching-te and others: any attempt to distort the history of the War of Resistance Against Japan and World War II will not succeed.
Spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Chen Binhua, answers questions from reporters.
Question: On September 3rd, the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War was held in Beijing. On that day, Lai Ching-te posted on social media criticizing the commemoration event, claiming that "Taiwan does not use guns to commemorate peace" and "believes that the equipment in hand is used to defend the country, not for aggression and expansion," insinuating and attacking the mainland's social system. What is your comment on this?
September 3rd is the Victory Day of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, a day for all Chinese people at home and abroad to hold their heads high and celebrate victory. On the day of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, Lai Ching-te made irresponsible remarks, glorifying aggression, inciting opposition and confrontation, completely ignoring the arduous and remarkable great war efforts of Chinese people at home and abroad to save the nation from peril, completely ignoring the great history forged by Chinese people to achieve national independence and liberation with blood and life, completely ignoring the enormous national sacrifices and significant historical contributions made by Chinese people to save human civilization and defend world peace. His remarks completely lack a national standpoint, openly challenge justice and conscience, seriously hurt the feelings of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, fully expose the ugly face and evil nature of the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces betraying history, betraying the nation, disrespecting the martyrs, and erasing conscience.
