Facing pressure from both the United States and the European Union, Spain cancelled at the last minute a contract to upgrade the public fiber optic network using equipment from Chinese manufacturer Huawei. According to reports from Reuters and others on the 29th, the contract, worth 10 million euros, had already been approved by relevant public utility departments earlier in the week. However, the Spanish Ministry of Digital Transformation intervened at the last minute, citing reasons related to "digital strategy and strategic autonomy," and cancelled the contract.
