SK Telecom fined a record-breaking 1.348 trillion Korean won due to a large-scale data breach.
South Korea's data protection regulatory agency on Thursday imposed a record 1.348 trillion won fine on SK Telecom for a large-scale data breach that affected its 23 million users. This is the highest fine issued by the South Korean Personal Information Protection Commission since its establishment in 2020. In April of this year, SK Telecom disclosed a significant data leak of universal user identity module data on its servers and offered free USIM replacement services to all users, and cooperated with the regulatory investigation.
