The United States is increasing its naval presence in the southern Caribbean Sea to combat drug trafficking groups in Latin America.
Journalists learned on August 25th local time that two informed sources revealed that the United States has ordered the deployment of warships to the southern Caribbean region to cooperate with President Trump's operation to combat drug trafficking groups in Latin America. The sources stated that the missile cruiser "Lake Erie" and the attack nuclear submarine "Newport News" will arrive in the area early next week. Last week, the United States sent an amphibious fleet, including the "USS San Antonio," "USS Whidbey Island," and "USS Fort Lauderdale," carrying about 4,500 military personnel, including 2,200 Marines, deployed along the coast of Venezuela. The Trump administration in February of this year designated drug trafficking organizations such as the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico and the "Aragua Train Gang" in Venezuela as global terrorist organizations. Trump stated that combating drug trafficking groups is a core component of his immigration enforcement and border security policies.
