Trump says Intel agrees to give the US government a 10% stake.
President Donald Trump said that Intel has agreed to give the government a 10% stake. Sources familiar with the matter say that it is expected to be officially announced on Friday. Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday, "They have agreed, and I think it's a very good deal for them." Trump believes that this agreement will revitalize Intel, pointing out that compared to competitors in the chip manufacturing industry, "Intel has fallen behind." He brought up this idea earlier this month when he met with Intel CEO Bob Swan. It is expected that Swan will attend a ceremony at the White House on Friday to finalize the agreement. "I said, you know what? I think the United States should get 10% of Intel's shares, and he said 'I will consider it.' I said, 'I hope you can do this,'" Trump said. The focus of the negotiations is to convert the funding under the "Chip and Science Act" into equity.
