Core consumer prices in Japan have risen by over 3% for 8 consecutive months.
A report released by the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on the 22nd showed that the country's core consumer price index, excluding fresh food, rose by 3.1% year-on-year to 111.6 in July this year, marking the eighth consecutive month of increase of over 3%. The report indicated that the significant increase in food prices remains the main reason for the inflation in Japan. In that month, prices of grain, snacks, meat, beverages, and other food items all rose, with the price of regular rice increasing by as much as 89.9% year-on-year. In addition, mobile communication fees and hotel accommodation fees increased by 11.8% and 6.0% respectively compared to the same period last year.
