According to NBC News, Trump met with dozens of law enforcement officers and National Guard members in Washington DC, thanking them for their efforts in combating crime in the capital. He stated that these measures have significantly reduced the crime rate in Washington and are a "successful start" for his administration. On August 11, President Trump announced the deployment of the first batch of 800 National Guard members to Washington DC, along with a series of measures including federal government taking over the Washington Police Department, to address the issues of frequent violent crimes and excessive homeless population in the area. Recently, the number of National Guard troops stationed in the district has been increased from 800 to nearly 1900, leading to increased discontent among local residents. Washington DC Mayor Bowser emphasized in a recent interview that the local crime rate has significantly decreased and there has been no surge in crime incidents.
