On August 20th local time, the US Navy conducted a test near the coast of California last month to demonstrate the performance of unmanned naval vessels. One of the vessels unexpectedly lost speed and collided with another moored vessel, causing it to capsize. The vessels involved were produced by Saronic Company and Black Sea Technologies. A few weeks ago, in another test by the US Navy, a support boat towing another vessel suddenly accelerated, leading to a capsizing accident. Sources familiar with the incidents state that both events were caused by a combination of software malfunctions and human errors, including communication interruptions between the onboard systems and external autonomous software.
