The Myanmar National Defense and Security Council has announced the implementation of a state of emergency in multiple towns.
On July 31, the Myanmar Defense and Security Council issued orders to declare a state of emergency in 63 towns across 3 provinces and 6 states in order to suppress armed violence and effectively maintain peace, security, and rule of law in the relevant areas. In a subsequent order, the Council announced the implementation of military control in the aforementioned areas for 90 days in accordance with the relevant provisions of the constitution. In February 2021, Myanmar's then acting President Min Aung Hlaing declared a nationwide state of emergency for one year and transferred power to the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces. The Defense Forces Headquarters subsequently established the National Administrative Council, with Min Aung Hlaing as its chairman. Myanmar has since extended the nationwide state of emergency multiple times. On the afternoon of July 31, the Myanmar Defense and Security Council held a meeting in Naypyidaw, announcing the dissolution of the National Administrative Council.
