On Friday, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics released data showing that US job growth in July was nearly stagnant, which made President Trump unhappy. Just hours after the non-farm employment report was released, Trump announced the dismissal of the bureau's director. In a post on Truth Social, he also pointed fingers at Federal Reserve Chairman Powell, accusing Labor Statistics Bureau Director Erica McEntee of being a politically appointed official who manipulated employment data. "Just learned that our 'employment data' was compiled by Dr. Erica McEntee, the Labor Statistics Bureau director appointed by Biden, who falsified employment data before the election in an attempt to help Harris campaign," Trump wrote. "We need accurate employment data. I have ordered the team to immediately dismiss this Biden political appointee and appoint someone more capable." Several US news organizations have confirmed that McEntee has been dismissed.
