Tesla has updated service information for its self-driving taxi users in California.
Business Insider cited a notification sent to users on Saturday, reporting that Tesla has sent a new service agreement to self-driving ride-hailing users, detailing its plans for a service launch in the Bay Area of California. The notification stated: "If your journey is within the state of California, it will be completed by a safety driver using the 'fully autonomous' system, which has been authorized by the California Public Utilities Commission." The notification also added that trips outside of California will be done in "fully autonomous mode," confirming a previous report from Reuters the day before. As of now, Tesla has not responded to requests for comments. Reuters had previously reported that unlike Alphabet Inc's Waymo unit, Tesla is unable to use autonomous vehicles for service in the Bay Area because the electric car maker does not have the necessary permits, and according to the California Public Utilities Commission, Tesla has not submitted relevant applications. The report stated that Tesla has stated that its service will use an improved supervised "fully autonomous driving" software.
