On the afternoon of July 24th local time, President Trump visited the undergoing renovation Federal Reserve headquarters. He "audited" in front of Fed chairman Powell, claiming that the renovation project of the Fed building had "seriously overspent." Powell immediately refuted Trump's claim, saying that his calculation method was incorrect. When asked by reporters on site, Trump said he "hoped Powell would cut interest rates." Powell simply smiled and brushed off the comment. According to reports from American media, this is the first time in nearly 20 years that a U.S. president has officially visited the Fed - normally, the president does not visit the Fed in an official capacity to uphold the tradition of the Fed's "independence" from the White House.
