The armed military conflict between Thailand and Cambodia entered its second day, with both sides using rockets and artillery to bombard targets on either side of the disputed border. The United States and some other countries are calling for an immediate ceasefire. The Thai government estimates that this deadliest conflict in over a decade has resulted in 14 deaths, including one soldier. Thai authorities also stated that over twenty people have been injured, some seriously. Cambodia has not yet released casualty figures. The Thai stock market and the Thai Baht continued to fall for a second day. The Baht fell by 0.2% against the US dollar to 32.33 Baht, performing similarly to other currencies in the region, while the benchmark stock index dropped by 0.6%. This battle has drawn condemnation from world leaders, with the United States expressing serious concerns. US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott said on Thursday in Washington, "The United States urges an immediate cessation of hostilities, protecting civilians, and peacefully resolving the conflict."
