The draft amendment of the Price Law of the People's Republic of China was released yesterday. Experts said that since the implementation of the Price Law in 1998, it has played an important role in guiding the optimal allocation of resources, promoting the reasonable operation of prices, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of consumers and operators. However, with the continuous deepening of economic and social development and price reform, significant changes have taken place in price management practices, necessitating further modifications and improvements. The draft amendment of the Price Law, which is open for public opinion, consists of 10 articles, including improving government pricing, further clarifying the standards for identifying unfair pricing behaviors, and strengthening legal responsibilities for price violation behaviors. Liu Wuxing, director of the Price Monitoring Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that the current situation facing price work has undergone significant changes, with the majority of prices for goods and services being determined by the market. New economic formats and models continue to emerge, some industries are facing problems of low-price disorderly competition, and there are new requirements for price regulation and supervision. The revision of the amendment focuses on the key contents that are not adapted to the new situations and tasks in price work practice, improves legal terms, strengthens legal applicability and effectiveness. It can better meet the needs of new situations and changes, enhance the level of governance by law, consolidate the practical experience of price reform, and achieve organic connection between legislation and reform.
