In the Lancang River Basin of Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, five new record fish species have been discovered in China.

The Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences recently discovered 5 new record fish species in the Lancang River basin in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, including 4 indigenous freshwater fish species and 1 alien species. The Lancang River basin has high fish diversity, with over 240 species of fish, accounting for one third of the total fish species in Yunnan province. As research progresses, new species continue to be discovered.
