Brazilian police issue search warrant for former president Bolsonaro and take restrictive measures against him.
On July 18th local time, the Brazilian police issued a search warrant for the country's former president Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro's defense lawyer confirmed this action. Brazilian police investigators said that Bolsonaro had funded actions that violated national sovereignty. It is understood that the police searched Bolsonaro's residence in the capital Braslia and the office address of his political party, the Freedom Party. They also imposed restrictions on Bolsonaro, including wearing an electronic ankle monitor, prohibiting the use of social media, mandatory home confinement from 7pm to 7am, prohibiting communication with foreign diplomats, prohibiting proximity to foreign embassies, and prohibiting contact with other defendants and investigators being investigated by the court. Bolsonaro was defeated in the presidential elections in October 2022. On January 8, 2023, some of Bolsonaro's supporters attacked the Brazilian Congress, the Presidential Palace, and the Federal Supreme Court, causing serious damage. The Brazilian prosecutors accuse Bolsonaro of planning a coup with several senior aides, attempting to promote military intervention to overturn the election results.
