On July 17th, the American network CBS announced that it will be canceling "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and its entire late night lineup. CBS stated that the show will air its final episode in May of next year, at which point host Stephen Colbert's current contract will expire. The statement explained that this decision was purely a financial one made in the challenging landscape of late night programming, and was not related to the performance or content of the show, or any other events involving CBS's parent company, Paramount.
