The Ministry of Natural Resources convenes a special conference on the key period for flood prevention and defense against marine disasters in 2025 "Seven Down Eight Up".
The meeting emphasized that, due to the impact of climate change such as rising sea temperatures and accelerating sea levels, the intensity and frequency of ocean disasters such as storm surges and giant waves are increasing. The range of typhoon impacts is moving northward, with the risk of storm surge disasters in northern sea areas such as the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea increasing. Frequent occurrence of extreme events such as sudden seawater backflows, the situation for defense against ocean disasters is severe. The meeting called for: 1. Strengthening emergency duty shifts, ensuring that observation, monitoring, early warning, forecasting, consultation, assessment, and disaster investigation are implemented. 2. Enhancing the operational application of "one map" for sub-scenarios of ocean disasters, efficiently dealing with various ocean disasters. 3. Improving disaster warning capabilities, further strengthening consultation and assessment, making full use of technologies such as artificial intelligence to enhance monitoring and warning of extreme marine events, continuously improving forecast accuracy. 4. Strengthening investigation and assessment of ocean disasters, identifying hidden risks of ocean disasters, enhancing publicity of disaster prevention and reduction knowledge, continually enhancing awareness and capabilities of the people for defense against ocean disasters. 5. Strengthening management and education of maritime safety production, conducting pre-sailing inspections and rectifying issues, ensuring "zero" accidents in maritime operations.
