Nutrien's Canadian potash project is expected to exceed its budget by $1.7 billion and the second phase of production will be delayed.
BHP will announce the latest cost and progress estimate of the Jansen potash project in Canada on July 18. The first phase of the project is reported to be 68% complete, with expected capital expenditure between 7 billion and 7.4 billion US dollars, compared to the initial estimate of 5.7 billion US dollars. The first production time is expected to be restored to the original mid-2027. The capital expenditure guidance for the group's fiscal years 2026 and 2027 remains at 11 billion US dollars. However, considering factors such as potential market oversupply, BHP intends to postpone the commissioning of the second phase of the project to the fiscal year 2031.
