Survey: More than 30% of American adolescents who use "AI companions" have been harmed.
A survey released by the American Consensus Media Consulting Company on the 16th showed that over 70% of American teenagers aged 13 to 17 have used "artificial intelligence companions", with over 30% having been hurt by the words of AI companions. This has raised concerns about the safety of AI companions. Consensus Media Consulting Company is a non-profit organization that focuses on the media and technology use of teenagers. According to AFP, the survey commissioned by the organization revealed that among the 1060 teenagers aged 13 to 17 surveyed, 72% had used an AI companion at least once, with 52% using it several times a month. 30% of respondents said they used AI companions because it was "fun", while 28% were curious about this new technology. Concerningly, the survey also showed that one-third of teenage users would discuss serious topics with AI companions instead of real friends, and 24% would reveal their real names and addresses in communication with AI. Additionally, 34% of respondents reported that AI companions had said or done things that made them uncomfortable, but this was considered "not common".
