On July 15 local time, Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, said during the second quarter earnings conference call, "The private credit market may have already started to peak. Maybe, I'm not sure." When asked if he was interested in acquiring a private credit company, Dimon replied, "This is not my top priority right now because we can do private credit business ourselves. Of course, if we come across the right people and the right price, we can consider it." When asked about what exactly "the private credit market peaking" meant, Dimon stated that currently credit spreads are low in the industry and growing rapidly, "You have to pay a high premium to participate. I'm not saying it won't continue to grow, but I will be a bit cautious, depending on who the target is."
