Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Suriname's newly elected President, Santokhi.

On July 11, 2025, Chinese President Xi Jinping called Ms. Simmons to congratulate her on being elected President of the Republic of Suriname. President Xi pointed out that Suriname is China's strategic partner in the Caribbean region. Over the 49 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, with the joint efforts of both sides, the China-Suriname relationship has developed healthily and steadily, yielding fruitful results in practical cooperation in various fields and maintaining close coordination in multilateral affairs. I attach great importance to the development of China-Suriname relations and am willing to work together with President Simmons to deepen mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation, promote greater development of the strategic partnership between the two countries, and better benefit the people of the two countries.
