The report released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics on May 30th showed that in the first quarter of 2025, Brazil's gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 1.4% compared to the previous quarter, and by 2.9% compared to the same period last year. The report stated that the main driver of economic growth in the first quarter was the agricultural sector, which saw a 12.2% increase compared to the previous quarter. Meanwhile, the service sector grew by 0.3%, and the industrial sector declined by 0.1%. Rebecca Palis, a researcher at the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, analyzed that agriculture usually has a significant impact on Brazil's GDP at the beginning of the year, as Brazil is located in the southern hemisphere and the main agricultural harvest season is between January and May. Climate disasters at the end of last year caused a contraction in Brazil's agricultural sector, leading to a low base, but favorable weather conditions at the beginning of this year resulted in a significant increase in agricultural growth compared to the previous quarter.
