The latest data from the UK Home Office shows that on May 31, a total of 1194 illegal immigrants arrived in the UK by crossing the English Channel from France on small boats, setting a record for the highest single day this year. British Defense Secretary Healy said on June 1 that the UK has "lost control of its borders" in the past five years. Healy said in an interview with local media that the scenes on May 31 were "shocking" as the "snakehead" organizations bring the boats over like taxis. Healy also mentioned that the French police failed to intercept immigrant boats in shallow waters offshore, calling it "a very serious problem." He said that the UK is putting pressure on the French side to quickly implement new regulations, allowing French police to stop illegal immigrants at sea rather than just on the shore. According to the latest data released by the UK Home Office, despite the UK and France signing an agreement to prevent illegal immigration crossing, the success rate for the French authorities to intercept illegal immigrants crossing the English Channel is decreasing. Statistics show that the interception rate by French police this year is only 38%, lower than the rates of 45% and 47% in 2023 and 2022.
