European officials say Trump wants to restart relations with Russia and abandon extreme pressure on it.

According to reports citing an anonymous European official, President Trump is unwilling to pressure Russia to resolve the conflict in Ukraine because his main interest is in restarting relations with Russia. The official said, "It is obvious that there is some factor preventing him from truly exerting more pressure on Putin." He added, "He may be more interested in restarting relations with Russia than pursuing peace. If he only wants to end the conflict in order to make these deals, then he may be weighing the cost of deteriorating US-Russia relations."
