After the easing of the trade war, sea freight has picked up, but there are signs of a slowdown in container bookings.

Thanks to the mutual reduction of tariffs at the beginning of this month, the sea freight price for a 40-foot standard container from Shanghai to Los Angeles rose by nearly 17% to $3,738, marking the largest relative increase in a single week so far this year. As of the week ending on May 29th, the price per container is still nearly one-third lower than the peak in January, but higher than the low point of $2,487 before Trump announced the "Liberation Day" tariffs at the end of March. However, container booking volumes have declined. Data from Vizion and Dun & Bradstreet show that the total booking volume in the first three days of this week is equivalent to about 106,000 20-foot standard containers, a decrease from the 137,000 containers during the same period last week. Globally, the week starting on May 19th has been the highest booking week so far this year.
