According to a report by DigiTimes on August 4th, the annual production capacity for DRAM and HBM for 2027 has already been sold out in advance. Although NAND flash memory supply is not as tight as DRAM, it is expected that the capacity reservations for NAND will also be completed by the end of this month. Sources in the industry indicate that some companies have not publicly acknowledged the need to secure storage supplies within this month, as they are concerned that more manufacturers entering the competition for capacity will further reduce their allocated quotas. Currently, memory manufacturers typically deliver only 60% to 70% of the initial requested quantities to clients and prioritize the needs of cloud service providers and large AI enterprises. As a result, the amount of DRAM available to smartphone and PC manufacturers in 2027 is expected to decline significantly compared to 2026. DigiTimes states that companies that have not finalized their purchase volumes under the nearly sold-out capacity may face a more serious "wanting to buy but unable to buy" situation next year. The report also mentions that high memory prices will become the norm. As the competition for capacity eases, price increases in 2027 may be lower than the previous drastic hikes, but the overall supply gap and the cost pressures faced by the end-product industry are still difficult to alleviate in the short term.
