Amazon completes its full investment of $50 billion in OpenAI.

On July 31 local time, Amazon disclosed in its 10-Q quarterly report that it has completed a total investment of $50 billion in OpenAI. In the first quarter of this year, Amazon invested $15 billion in OpenAI's Series C preferred stock and committed to an additional $35 billion purchase. In the second quarter, the company allocated $13.7 billion of the committed amount for the acquisition of OpenAI's Series C preferred stock. After the reporting period, the company invested the remaining $21.3 billion of the committed amount into OpenAI's Series C preferred stock. Amazon stated that if OpenAI completes an initial public offering or other liquidity event, the issued Series C preferred stock will convert into common stock. The company expects to be subject to a customary lock-up period following the IPO, and will thereafter remain subject to applicable securities law restrictions.
