New Zealand and Switzerland will start free trade agreement negotiations in September.
New Zealand Minister for Trade Todd McClay announced on Friday that New Zealand and Switzerland have agreed to begin negotiations in September for a bilateral agreement covering trade, economic security, investment, and e-commerce. Prior to this announcement, McClay met with Switzerland's State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Elena BudriG Altiyanda, in Auckland. McClay stated, "Switzerland is an important partner for New Zealand and one of the world's leading countries in innovation and highly developed economy." "With ongoing global economic uncertainty, it is more critical than ever for like-minded countries to deepen their trade and investment cooperation." Full year data up to December 2025 shows that the total bilateral trade between New Zealand and Switzerland reached NZ$1.88 billion.
