In the last fiscal year, Oracle laid off about 21,000 employees, a reduction greater than previously known levels, including positions cancelled due to the use of artificial intelligence. In its annual financial regulatory filing on Monday, Oracle stated, "We have adopted and deployed AI technology in various businesses, resulting in and possibly continuing to lead to a decrease in the number of employees." As of the end of the fiscal year on May 31, the total number of full-time employees worldwide fell from 162,000 in the previous year to 141,000 for Oracle. This personnel reduction resulted in approximately $1.8 billion in restructuring costs. Due to the heavy investment in building AI data centers for clients like OpenAI, Oracle is facing financial pressure.
