Article: Tesla submits misleading "fully autonomous driving" safety data to European regulatory agencies
Tesla is currently working to obtain regulatory approval for its fully automated driving system in Europe. The company has submitted its self-collected safety data to regulatory authorities in Sweden and the Netherlands. However, several independent traffic safety researchers have stated that these data are essentially misleading marketing propaganda. A Reuters investigation last month found that over the past year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and other company executives have frequently quoted related data, claiming that the safety performance of their fully automated driving assistance feature is ten times higher than that of human drivers. However, upon verification, Tesla's data includes multiple unreasonable comparisons, exaggerating its safety performance. Correspondence obtained from public documents by Reuters shows that the electric car manufacturer has submitted this inflated safety data to some European regulatory authorities in order to regain market share in Europe and push for widespread approval of their fully automated driving system locally. Tesla submitted an application to the Netherlands Road Authority by the end of 2024, officially starting the approval process for its fully automated driving system.
