The UK Parliament watchdog has stated that there is severe lack of transparency in the continuously rising nuclear weapons spending by the UK Ministry of Defence, with related expenditures accounting for about one-fifth of the UK defense budget. In a strongly worded report, the Public Accounts Committee also criticized the troubled Ajax armored vehicle project which has already cost over 6 billion; and blamed the government for failing to publish the defense investment plan, which was supposed to be released last year. The Public Accounts Committee stated, "In fact, the UK has not had a comprehensive and feasible military development plan for many years."
