Groundbreaking for the construction of Guangzhou's new airport, adding a new hub to the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau.
Construction of the new airport in Guangzhou will begin on the 25th, moving from blueprint to reality for a new modern international aviation hub in the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, providing added support for the development of world-class cities in the region. The new airport in Guangzhou is located in Gaoming District, Foshan City, at the geographical center of Foshan, Zhaoqing, Jiangmen, and Yunfu, directly serving a population of over 20 million. According to the plan, the nature of the new airport in Guangzhou is as a domestic civil hub airport and is an important part of the Guangzhou International Aviation Hub, as well as one of the aviation hubs in the Greater Bay Area, also serving as a comprehensive transportation hub in the western part of the bay area. The total investment in the Guangzhou new airport project is 41.808 billion yuan, with 35.909 billion yuan allocated for airport construction, including the construction of two long-distance parallel runways, a terminal building with a floor area of approximately 260,000 square meters, 94 aircraft parking positions, and corresponding supporting facilities. It is estimated that the new airport will be able to handle an annual passenger throughput of 30 million people, a cargo and mail throughput of 500,000 tons, and accommodate 260,000 take-offs and landings.
