Significant decrease! National air quality improved year-on-year during this year's Spring Festival.

According to a message from the China National Environmental Monitoring Center, air quality in most parts of the country improved significantly during this year's Spring Festival. Monitoring data showed that during the period from New Year's Eve to New Year's Day in 2026, the national average PM2.5 concentration was 48.7 micrograms per cubic meter, a decrease of 35.9% compared to the same period in the lunar calendar in 2025, and the lowest since the Spring Festival in 2020. The highest PM2.5 concentration during New Year's Eve to New Year's Day occurred at 1 am on New Year's Day, at 131.7 micrograms per cubic meter, a decrease of 36.2% compared to last year; a total of 25 cities nationwide experienced severe pollution or worse during this period, a decrease of 51 cities compared to the previous year.
