AFP reported on the 25th that the Algerian parliament unanimously passed a bill on the 24th, officially designating France's colonial rule in Algeria as a "national crime." Since the 1980s, Algeria has repeatedly proposed bills to classify French colonization as a crime, but they have never been passed. The bill points out that during the colonial period, France engaged in systematic resource plundering, caused large-scale casualties, conducted nuclear tests causing serious environmental damage, and demanded that France apologize and compensate for its historical responsibilities. Algerian National Assembly President Bougali emphasized during the parliamentary debate that this action is "not directed against any nation, not seeking revenge, and not exacerbating hatred."
