"G20" has been selected as the South Africa's Word of the Year for 2025.

The Pan-South African Language Board stated that it collaborated with South Africa's "Focus" media research company to select candidate words based on real language usage and analyzed word frequency data from January to December 2025, as well as keywords widely used in authoritative media. Ultimately, the word "G20" was chosen as the South African word of the year for 2025, with "national unity government" and "tariffs" ranking second and third respectively. The board said that these words reflect important events and topics shaping South African society in 2025, covering various aspects such as politics, international affairs, and social challenges.
