In the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China added more than 340,000 square kilometers of land affected by soil erosion control measures.
Journalists learned from the Ministry of Water Resources that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the newly treated area of water and soil erosion in the country exceeded 340,000 square kilometers, with a net decrease of about 116,000 square kilometers. The water and soil conservation rate reached over 73%, providing strong support for promoting harmonious coexistence between man and nature. Key areas with water and soil erosion have been effectively treated, with a focus on the upper and middle reaches of major rivers, the black soil region in the northeast, and the karst region in the southwest. Central investment supports comprehensive treatment of small watersheds, treating an area of 67,000 square kilometers for water and soil erosion, reducing soil erosion intensity by 15 to 20 percentage points in the project implementation area, and significantly enhancing the quality and stability of the ecosystem.
