The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that a United Airlines flight to Tokyo experienced an engine failure when it took off on Saturday afternoon and was forced to return to Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia. The FAA announced that it will launch an investigation into United Airlines flight 803, which was operated by a Boeing 777-200 aircraft. A spokesperson for United Airlines said that shortly after takeoff, the flight had to make an emergency landing due to an engine losing power. There were no reports of injuries among the 275 passengers and 15 crew members on board. The spokesperson stated that United Airlines plans to use another aircraft later on Saturday to resume the flight.
