A city in Japan is affected as gas leak causes a supply disruption to tens of thousands of users.
Due to receiving dozens of complaints of gas leaks and stove fires, a gas company in western Japan temporarily suspended gas supply to customers in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture on December 4, affecting over 10,000 users. According to the report by Kyodo News on December 5, the gas supplier, Yamaguchi Gas Company, said the leaks were caused by abnormal pressure - about 12 times the normal level, with some users experiencing gas leaks even when the stove valves were closed. Local police and government officials said they had received over 60 reports of gas leaks and fires, resulting in two injuries, including burns to the hands. The company stated that the gas supply suspension impacted nearly 12,500 users in Ube City, forcing some restaurants to close.
